About US

UK Black Music in the Hall of Fame
Honouring the Past. Celebrating the Present. Inspiring the Future.
The UK Black Music Hall of Fame was created to recognise, honour, and preserve the legacy of Black music and the people who built, shaped, and transformed the sound of modern Britain. For decades, Black British music has been one of the most powerful cultural forces in the United Kingdom, influencing mainstream music, youth culture, fashion, language, media, and national identity. Many of these movements were built in communities, sound systems, pirate radio stations, and independent scenes that were often overlooked by mainstream institutions at the time. The people who built these scenes were not always formally recognised in the way their influence deserved.
The Hall of Fame exists to address that gap — to ensure that the artists, producers, DJs, sound systems, broadcasters, and community pioneers who built Black British music are properly documented, celebrated, and remembered for future generations.
The UK Black Music Hall of Fame is not just about awards; it is about heritage, education, and cultural preservation.
It will:
⦁ Recognise pioneers and legends who shaped British music
⦁ Preserve the history of Black British music for future generations
⦁ Educate the public about the cultural impact of Black music in the UK
⦁ Celebrate not just artists, but also DJs, producers, radio, sound systems, and industry figures
⦁ Inspire young people by showing the legacy and achievements of those who came before them
⦁ Establish Black British music as a central part of British history and culture
In short, the Hall of Fame ensures that the story of British music cannot be told without the story of Black British music. From Reggae and Sound System Culture in the 1960s to the 1970s, Lovers Rock and British soul from the 1970s to 1980s, UK Soul Jungle and Drum and Bass, British Soul, UK Soul/Pop Crossover, UK Soul, Rare Groove and R&B in the 1990s, UK Garage and Grime in the Late 1990s to 2000s and UK Rap, Drill, Afroswing and Global influence from 2010 to date.
The long-term plan for the UK Black Music Hall of Fame is to establish a permanent cultural institution that preserves, celebrates, and educates the public about the history and impact of Black music in the United Kingdom.
This includes the development of a permanent museum and exhibition space that showcases the evolution of Black British music through interactive displays, memorabilia, photography, film, and audio archives.
A key part of the long-term vision is the creation of a national archive to collect, preserve, and digitise recordings, flyers, photographs, posters, radio recordings, and personal collections that document the history of Black music in the UK, ensuring that these important cultural materials are protected for future generations.
The Hall of Fame also aims to develop education programmes, workshops, and partnerships with schools, colleges, and universities to teach the history and cultural importance of Black British music.
In addition, the organisation plans to curate travelling exhibitions and community events across the UK, ensuring that the story of Black British music is accessible nationwide. Together, the museum, archive, education programmes, and exhibitions will create a lasting legacy that recognises Black British music as an essential part of British cultural history and ensures that its contributions are preserved, celebrated, and passed on to future generations.

The
Founders & Team

The UK Black Music Hall of Fame is part of the Black Music Guild UK who staged the UKs first Black Music Awards in 1994 at Hammersmith Palis following outrage at the lack of representation when it came to Black music talent winning at The BRIT Awards that same year. The team is a mix of UK Black music artists, musicians, songwriters, producers, managers, publishers, promoters, event organisers, journalists, DJs, legacy builders and Windrush advocates.
